This is my first blog. While I usually have a lot to say I don't usually share it. The actual setup of the blog was very easy. It's the using it I'm not sure of.
I can definitely see blogging as an advantage for many areas. As mentioned in the article it's a great way to get your idea out in the public eye for many different readers. It can be an advertising tool for an event. While at the same time it can be used to sway the opinion for decision that needs to be made.
As far as the classrooms it would be a great tool for discussion outside of the classroom. I've heard of many teachers being able to get students involved by allowing them an alternative to speaking during class time. There are students who do not want to talk during class for various reasons. Blogging allows them an alternative to discussion.
Also, writing down ideas allows a person to think ideas or problems through in a different way. By thinking and then typing out those thoughts a person has to actually address the idea multiple times and can clean the process up.

Agree that students who may not normally participate in class, will participate more in a blog. (Viewed as less threatening)
ReplyDeleteAlso, a great way to get parents involved. Invite them to view the blog (not participate), so they can see students work. Maybe not partake in the class discussions, but if you post projects or presentations. Can also include announcements. It will get you in the habit of posting regularly and parents will be updated regularly on classroom activities!
I agree with you that this is a great tool for discussion outside of the classroom. I can see this going beyond students, to parents and to other teachers. This may be a great way to reinforce the writing process with elementary school children.
ReplyDeleteSince I work solo (don't get to work or meet with the library media specialist or other computer teachers) I can see blogging to be a great way to collaborate with my peers.
